UrbanSurvival provides daily business news analysis and financial market coverage from the long wave (longwave) economic perspective. Since 1996, this site has expressed the view that traditional constant-expansion corporate business models would all collapse some day and that we'd eventually be forced to move toward green (sustainable) business models - the new economics of responsible capitalism - or perish.

UrbanSurvival started as my MBA capstone project in 1995-96 while at the same time actively participating in the University of Colorado's Center for a Sustainable Future's Long Wave Economics ("Longwaves") discussion group. The group focused on the work of Nikolai Kondratiev (sometimes spelled Kondratieff). He's credited with discovery of 48-64-year cycles in the economy that were traced back to the 1200's in Europe via grain prices.

This site tries to achieve three purposes: Evolution of the capstone project, focusing on web-direct marketing test platform for clients (in a sense I experiment on my own dime, not client money) and it provides an important alternative to the "me-too" corporate/government mainstream news media (MSM), also referred as the "corpgov" arm of the PowersThatBe, that gives pathetically disjointed / shallow coverage of the subtle complexities weaving all aspects of business and financial news into the human drama. As delivered by the MSM, news is a drone of 'data points'. I'm committed to connecting groups of dots, wherever possible.

This site is not overtly political, except insofar as the Western Capitalistic paradigm doesn't have ready answers to what happens when 7-billion humans reach the limit of the planet's carrying capacity. Fortunately, when I put on my thinking cap, there are plenty of alternatives, though, and these are shared first with subscribers to one of my other sites: www.peoplenomics.com which has a large enough subscriber base that it offsets the costs of this project.

While the longer term outlook reflected here smacks of such landmark works as Robert Kaplan's book "The Coming Anarchy" and James Kunstler's "The Long Emergency," UrbanSurvival's goal is to try and put day-to-day news items into a workable and actionable perspective such that a long-term investor might react thoughtfully to events - often in advance of their occurrence. How can you do that, you're wondering?

We have friends who have developed a groundbreaking predictive technology which we simply call "web bot" technology developed by Cliff of www.halfpasthuman.com. The technology, which samples large portions of the public internet with an eye toward "sensing the future" based on subtle changes in language, seems to have given indications before-the-fact of a large number of major news events, including but not limited to our reports before the fact on things like:

Cheney and his "accident"

Sex Scandal just coming out

Bushco and escalating disclosures

Degrading of Iraqi's and Iraqi youth rebellion against US

The increasing unpopularity of the Bush Administration leading up to the inevitable meltdown

Emerging and ongoing, oil price increases

Then there's the more recent China Quake warning 72-hours before events, and the forecast of a major economic crisis to arrive around October 7, 2008...

While these are only some of the factors we're watching, I expect you're agree that this is not a view of the world through "rose-colored glasses." The Earth is a giant Petri dish and natural resources are what we human bacteria eat - oil in particular. So please check out the free daily report or wander around through our library. You'll find that thanks to some hard work by a few friends in this endeavor, we've been some distance ahead of mainstream media MSM and hope to continue this into the future.
